The Peace and Social Action Committee supports two major interfaith programs

The Inter-Faith Housing Alliance is an agency designed to prevent homelessness in four ways:

A.     Hospitality Network – This is a 90 day shelter type program for three qualifying homeless families to be housed in a monthly rotation of congregations.  Gwynedd Monthly Meeting hosts the families during the month of July.  Along with Tifferet Bet Israel, who buddies with our congregation, members of GMM volunteers to provide dinners, transportation, babysitting and overnight hospitality.

B.      Hope Gardens – I-FHA maintains a transitional housing facility of eight apartments, each one shares support by eight congregations in the Ambler area.  GMM supports an apartment as well as whoever is living in the apartment as well.  We try to help the family become self-sufficient so that they are able to find and maintain market living after their two years are up.

C.     The hotline – anyone in the middle and eastern Montgomery County can phone in and get information about who to call for help.  They may be able to provide an overnight stay in area hotel.

D.     Homelessness Prevention – Households in the same demographic area may qualify to get help with rent, mortgage and utility payments to prevent losing their homes.

Interfaith of Lansdale also works to prevent homelessness.  GMM supports Manna with food and a representative.

A.     They have a large food cupboard and kitchen, known as Manna on Main Street.  These are available to anyone.

B.      There is help available for supporting utility bills, mortgage, rental and security deposit.
